Smarter Balanced Assessments

In the spring of 2014, all Rescue Union School District students in grades 3-8 will participate in the SBAC Field Test. This will be a computerized test in English Language Arts and Mathematics. While the Pilot Test will not produce any results for students, schools or districts, it will give us a wonderful opportunity to experience this new type of assessment and prepare ourselves for next year, when the test will produce results and be used in accountability measures for California schools and districts.

Students will need to practice their typing skills for success on the SBAC tests!  All schools in the District use Typing Pals for keyboarding practice.  You may access Typing Pals by going to your school's website and clicking on the Typing Pals icon.  If your student does not have a login, please notify your school office or teacher.

Common Core State Standards Information for Parents

Educational standards describe what students should know and be able to do in each subject in each grade. Since 2010, 45 states have adopted the same standards for English and math. These standards are called the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Having the same standards helps all students get a good education, even if they change schools or move to a different state. Teachers, parents, and education experts designed the standards to prepare students for success in college and the workplace.
