How do I enroll in the Rescue COOL School?
An online Intent to Enroll form is available to parent/guardians desiring to enroll their child.  Once you submit the Intent to Enroll form, a member of our staff will contact you to guide you through the enrollment process

Is the Rescue COOL School Independent Study Program open to all students?
Students in grades 3-8 that reside in the counties of El Dorado, Sacramento, Placer, Amador and Alpine may apply. Students must be self-disciplined, committed to completing all coursework, independent workers and comfortable with technology.

What is the role of the parent/guardian?
Parent/guardians must be highly involved in the student's coursework on a daily basis and will act as a "learning coach" at home.  You will need to be committed to working closely together with the student and the teacher, be willing to communicate frequently, and willing to closely monitor student progress and adhere to established program criteria.

How do parent/guardians decide which learning option to choose?
Information on the available learning options available through our independent study program are available here ...Our recommendation is to discuss this with the program director at the time of the initial registration interview.

Is COOL School designed for a particular type of student?
This program is designed for students that are motivated, independent, self-directed and desire a program that is self-paced and individualized.  Online independent study programs will not work for all students.

What curriculum will be used and where will I find more information on the curriculum?
The Rescue Union School District has partnered with Odysseyware, a Learning Management System, to deliver the online curriculum..  This engaging curriculum is aligned to state and district content standards, and designed to meet specific student needs and instructional objectives. Find more information on our COOL School Curriculum Page.

Visit the following URL to determine if your home computer meets the
minimum system requirements.

Who will be instructing the class?
All students will be instructed, monitored and evaluated by a state certified teacher employed by the Rescue Union School District.  Teachers are highly qualified as defined the No Child Left Behind Act.

What is the cost of the program?
This is a free, public educational program.

May my child participate in music/band, athletics, library programs, and visual and performing arts programs?
Students will be allowed to participate in other District programs as individual and school schedules allow.  Please discuss your options with the program director.

Will the Rescue COOL School accommodate a stay-at-home parent/guardian's desire to be very involved in guiding my child's education?
Absolutely.  Our program is built with a strong emphasis on parental involvement.  The parent/guardian will "coach" the student while relying on the certificated instructor for guidance and expertise.

My child is not at grade level.  Is this program right for them?
The beauty of this type of program is the ability to customize the program and match the learning pace of the student.  If a student struggles with a concept, the LMS will cycle the student back through the curriculum offering more practice until mastery is achieved.  Our excellent teaching staff will also closely monitor student progress and offer intervention strategies as necessary.

My child would benefit by having the ability to move faster through some of the core subjects.  Is this possible in the COOL School?
The beauty of this type of program is the ability to customize the program and match the learning pace of the student.  Students will be able to move at their own pace and will be given enrichment experiences commensurate with their interests and abilities.

Can my child take classes in another school and also enroll in the COOL School?
No.  The COOL School Independent Study Program is a full-time public school option.

Will the COOL School accommodate student schedules that are not conducive to traditional school hours?
Yes.  The COOL School curriculum is available 7 days a week and 24 hours a day.  Contact with teachers will be arranged with the teacher, parent and child.
