Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
Rescue Union School District continues to provide your students with the most effective web-based tools and applications for learning, and by doing so we need to abide by federal regulations that require parental consent.
In order for our students to use these programs and services, certain personal identifiable information, generally the student’s name and school email address (Google), must be provided to the web site operator. Under federal law entitled Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), these programs and services must provide parental notification and obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13. The law permits schools, such as ours, to consent to the collection of personal information on behalf of all of its students, thereby eliminating the need for individual parental consent given directly to the website operator for each program or service used. We take your student's safety and privacy very seriously and we read every privacy policy and terms of use for each company thoroughly before your student gains access to a program or service.
* Please note this list may change as our teachers and staff are looking to utilize the most current technologies and tools to enhance your student's education. All programs and services added to this list are thoroughly vetted before students are allowed access.
If you do not want your child to have access to these programs or services, you may print and fill out the Rescue USD Online Services Opt Out Form and turn it in to your school office.
- As Rescue USD moves forward in providing your child a relevant education by integrating technology and 21st century learning skills, requesting removal from third party services could prove problematic. Mobile devices (Chromebooks, iPads, etc.) are used regularly in the classroom for instructional purposes.
